Music is such an
instrumental part of worship in the church. AHCS seeks to
encourage the development of musical
gifts in students for their own edification and the
edification of the church. The Apostolic Church of Auburn
Hills is truly blessed with a tremendous music ministry and music ministers, Dan and Buffie
Dumas. AHCS students express themselves musically in a variety
of ways:
Elementary Music
Elementary classes
attend weekly music classes. Basic music appreciation and
understanding of music are taught. The emphasis is on
helping students appreciate and enjoy music.
Instrumental Music
Auburn Hills Christian
School is pleased to offer instruction in instrumental music.
AHCS has an elementary band and an advanced band. Instruction is
available for brass instruments,
woodwinds and percussion. The bands perform at two concerts
annually: at the Christmas Tea and a Spring concert. Students
perform on other occasions also.
Individual instruction is
offered by teachers in the areas of
percussion and keyboards.
Marianne Porter also directs
two percussion ensembles,
"Percussion Praise" and "Jr.
Percussion Praise." These groups are widely acclaimed and are
invited to perform at various locations throughout the Midwest.
Additionally, AHCS students
perform at the Apostolic Christian School Competition, held
annually in Knoxville, Tennessee. AHCS takes one large
instrumental ensemble and two small ensembles. These groups
have been highly awarded through the years. Students also
compete as soloists in variety of
categories including: keys, strings, brass, woodwinds, drums,
and guitar.
Vocal Music
There are a
variety of opportunities for those students who enjoy vocal
music. Weekly chapel services include worship through singing.
In many services, the students lead singing.
AHCS has a
concert chorale for secondary students. The class instructs
students in music theory and music appreciation. The group
also performs throughout the year.
The National Apostolic
Christian School Competition provides numerous opportunities
for those with vocal interest to compete and inform. However,
competition for the right to compete can be very stiff within
our own school. There are a multitude of solo and ensemble
categories and a chorale. Admission into the chorale is by audition.
